Meet Post & Porch's First Ever Product: Mailbox Numbers

Long before Post & Porch offered post-mounted mailboxes, package delivery boxes, planter pots, wreaths, outdoor lighting, and the other pieces you’ll find in our collection today, we were focused on a much smaller detail outside the home: the address numbers.

It was the kind of detail that was easy to overlook until you actually needed to replace it. Plenty of house and mailbox numbers could technically get the job done, but finding something clean, modern, easy to use, and worthy of the home around it was much harder.

That frustration eventually became Post & Porch’s first product and the beginning of a small Utah business built around paying closer attention to the parts of a home that often get ignored. Today, our magnetic mailbox numbers are still part of the collection, and even after everything we’ve designed since, they tell the Post & Porch story remarkably well.

The story goes back to Utah in 2017, when Post & Porch founder Danny Pilkington and his wife, Veronica, began exploring better-looking options for address numbers after Danny’s mom had trouble finding the right ones for her own home (AKA the big-box stores weren’t cutting it). 

At the time, the business was called Modern Aspect, and those early ideas around house numbers eventually grew into a family-owned company centered on modern curb appeal.

The problem they noticed was simple enough – people could spend months choosing siding, paint colors, landscaping, a front door, lighting, and all of the other pieces that shape the exterior of a home, only to reach the address numbers and find a surprisingly uninspiring set of choices. For us, that small frustration pointed to a much bigger opportunity.

The details outside your home are part of what you see when you pull into the driveway every day. They’re also what neighbors, friends, delivery drivers, and visitors see before they ever make it through the front door. We believed those pieces deserved the same attention homeowners were already giving the spaces inside.

That belief is still at the center of Post & Porch today. 

Our current collection has expanded well beyond address numbers, but our goal remains to create useful exterior pieces that contribute to the way a home looks and feels.

Mailbox numbers have a simple job, but they matter more than most homeowners realize. A clear, easy-to-read address helps guests, delivery drivers, service providers, and emergency responders identify the right home, while the style and placement of those numbers can also make a noticeable difference in the way a mailbox looks from the street.

Traditional mailbox address numbers don’t always make that easy. 

Adhesive numbers can be difficult to reposition once they’re applied, while screw-mounted options require measuring, drilling, and committing to the placement before you’ve had a chance to see how the finished arrangement works with the mailbox. Smaller numbers or finishes without enough contrast can also become difficult to read from the road.

That was the kind of everyday problem we wanted to solve when Post & Porch began in Utah.

Our magnetic mailbox numbers are made with anodized aluminum and strong rare-earth magnets, allowing each address number to attach securely to a compatible metal surface without adhesive or drilled holes. You can adjust the spacing, move a digit slightly higher or lower, step back to check the overall look, and reposition the numbers whenever needed.

The result is a practical way to create a more visible address while giving homeowners more control over one of the smallest details in their curb appeal. 

It’s also a good example of the thinking that has guided Post & Porch from the very beginning: take something useful, pay closer attention to how people actually use it, and make it feel considered alongside the rest of the home.

Post & Porch 4-inch magnetic mailbox numbers are made from anodized aluminum and backed with strong rare-earth magnets, giving homeowners a simple way to create a clear, polished address without adhesive, drilling, or permanent hardware – as we said above. Each mailbox number is available in two Post & Porch font styles, Wasatch and Newport, along with Black, White, Silver, and Brass finishes. That range makes it easier to choose mailbox address numbers that either stand out against the post-mount mailbox or coordinate with other exterior details around the home.

We originally designed the address numbers to pair naturally with The Malone Post-Mounted Mailbox, but their magnetic construction also allows them to work on other compatible magnetic metal surfaces. Since each mailbox number can be moved independently, you can fine-tune the spacing, straighten the address, or change the placement without leaving behind holes or adhesive residue.

That flexibility is especially helpful when you’re trying to balance visibility with curb appeal. 

Brass, Silver, or White mailbox numbers can create stronger contrast against a darker mailbox, while black address numbers can give lighter finishes a crisp, defined look. Choosing between Wasatch and Newport adds another layer of customization, helping the address feel more connected to your home’s architecture, mailbox, and other exterior finishes around it.

For a product that began with a small Utah business looking for a better approach to house numbers, those details still matter to us. Our magnetic mailbox numbers are meant to make an address easier to see, easier to install, and easier to make your own without turning a simple exterior update into a bigger project than it needs to be.

Once we started paying closer attention to house and mailbox numbers, it became difficult to ignore the post-mount mailbox they were attached to. Homeowners who wanted better-looking mailbox address numbers were often running into the same problem with the mailbox itself. They were putting time and care into siding, landscaping, lighting, front doors, and other exterior details, but many of the post-mount mailbox options available to them still felt limited, overly traditional, or disconnected from the rest of the home.

That gave our small Utah team another problem worth solving.

What began with magnetic house numbers gradually grew into modern post-mounted and wall-mounted mailboxes, followed by a broader collection of products for the front of the home. As that collection expanded, Modern Aspect became Post & Porch in 2024, a name that better reflected the company we had become while keeping the same focus on thoughtful exterior design that shaped our first product.

Today, Post & Porch designs modern mailboxes, address signs and numbers, planter pots, package delivery boxes, outdoor wall lighting, and other curb appeal products made to feel at home alongside one another. We’ve come a long way from those first mailbox numbers in Utah, but the idea behind them still guides what we make: notice the overlooked parts of a home, understand where the existing options fall short, and create something that works better while contributing to the exterior around it.

Post & Porch has grown well beyond our first set of magnetic mailbox numbers, but we still approach new products with the same attention to the smaller details that started the business in Utah.

As a small Utah business, those everyday improvements are still a big part of what we design for. The products may have grown, but the idea hasn’t changed much: thoughtful curb appeal is often built one detail at a time.

Nearly a decade after those first ideas began taking shape in Utah, Post & Porch has become a much larger curb appeal brand, but magnetic house numbers still have a place in our collection. They’re functional, customizable, easy to position, and designed with the appearance of the home in mind. In many ways, they contain the same thinking that eventually led us to modern mailboxes and everything that followed.
